Happiness
Happiness is a perfume you cannot pour on others without getting a few drops on yourself.
I don’t know who said this but I think it’s beautiful.

An Uncomfortable House
Terraced house crowded with dark furniture
stairs too steep for my short legs to risk
tiny kitchen full of dog and boiled cabbage
outside in the yard, coal shed and toilet to the right
sweetpeas and marigolds to the left
rabbit hutches stacked at the end.
A sense of things unsaid.
I didn’t want to stay long
or drink grandma’s tea with sterlised milk
afraid the dog would knock me over
but I loved the baby rabbits
granddad let me hold
and wished I could take one home.
Now I suspect they were destined for dinner.

morning
the warm space in bed
the trace of aftershave lingering by the bathroom
the smell of toast creeping upstairs
the gap where his car was parked.

Things to do today
Get out of bed
within thirty minutes of the alarm
or after a bad night
no earlier then five o’clock.
Make breakfast –
porridge or toast
and coffee for a boost.
Take a bath
with lavender
for calmness.
Get dressed,
even joggers and sweatshirt
are better than pyjamas.
10.24am
three tasks already done.
Great achievements.
A good day.

Don’t know where this came from, but it gives me strength.
O Lord,
Help me to understand that You ain’t gwine to let nuthin’ come my way that You and me together can’t handle.
